A Modern Day Story of Romeo and Juliet

by | Dec 4, 2023 | All, Life Lessons, My Stories, Relationships, The Adventures of Dating

They came from two different worlds. Romeo liked whiskey, hunting and anything camo. Juliet liked expensive tequila, traveling and Louboutin. He was beer, she was champagne, but their chemistry was a well mixed cocktail. When they met, their two worlds collided, and none of their differences seemed to matter. So while it seemed like the perfect love story, this tragic romance was doomed from the start.

For months, they rode the high of a whirlwind romance, enjoying weekends away, being carefree and getting to know one other. Romeo, fell first. He grandly proclaimed his feelings and made Juliet feel beautiful, adored, safe and gained her trust. He held her hand through some of the toughest moments of her life, and dove deep into her world and heart. Juliet drank it all in, she was drunk on his words and eventually reciprocated his intense feelings. Then one day, Romeo was nowhere to be found, and Juliet was left wondering where it went wrong. In time, Romeo, reappeared and professed his unsympathetic, unapologetic, cowardly excuses, and was caught professing his love for another. The Wicked Witch of the West (I might have mixed up my fairy tales here)…a woman whom according to him, represents human wickedness.

Everything Romeo had promised was proven to be untrue, and when life got hard, Romeo showed his true colors and let Juliet drink the poison alone. The man that had brought her back to life, was also the man that killed her in the end. Romeo wasn’t different, Romeo was the same man Juliet always picked, he was just disguised differently, and he knowingly broke her already fragile heart.

But this story has a happy ending…for Juliet anyways. Eventually, Romeo’s poison left her body, and Juliet rose above the grief, remembered who she was and came back stronger than ever. Romeo went on to live a mediocre life, trapped with a mediocre woman, who’s poison he seems to enjoy. A poison that will eventually ruin him the way he ruined Juliet, because that’s how karma works. While Juliet not only survived, but thrived…and lived happily every after in her big house on the hill, accepting applications from eligible suitors who aren’t intimidated by a strong, successful, beautiful woman.

The moral of the story is that we only get this one life, and we have to take risks. If Juliet had let her past experiences keep her from feeling, she might have avoided the poison…but she would have missed the life lesson. If you’ve ever had your heart broken before, it’s often easier to run away, rather than allow yourself to feel again. But we can’t sit around scared to let people in, simply because we’ve been hurt before. That’s the easy road.

So even if you’re hurting in places that he, or she….brought back from the dead, don’t let it discourage you, or cause you to lay them to rest again, when your Romeo turns out to actually be Hannibal Lecter. Get out there, meet people, live life, love life and eventually your real Romeo will come along and know your worth.

XOXO,
